Our sky is heavy with smoke and the sun is going orange. They evacuated the school I was subbing at. There are power outages all over the region. Ninety degree heat, 30 mph wind, humidity ranging between 2 and 9 percent.
Welcome to f-ing fire season in Southern California.
On the good side, my little subdivision is surrounded by a natural fire breaks and the hillside behind us burned a few years ago – along with 160,000 acres – in the Station fire so the fuel density is still less than it might be.
Oh well.

This is really scary. Where I live, I’m safe but I’m afraid of the flames coming here. I pray for safety for all of us.

I’m so sorry — it’s terrifying, as I know well. It’s also weird to be grateful there was a fire recently meaning there’s no fuel. I’ve been there, too. Good luck and stay safe.

I’m not terrified. We’ve been there, done that and got the T-shirt. For a while I was thinking about evacuating just so I could breath. My eyes are still stinging.
Mandatory evacuations got within a straight line mile of us. Wind shifted last night towards some other unfortunate souls.

Isn’t it weird how in that situation we feel grateful when the winds turn and it’s not us in the literal line of fire? That was a dark side of me I was surprised to discover in 2003.

Be safe out there. Fire season is rough. We had a quiet one up our way.
