I went shopping at Walmart today. Milk, Stax potato chips, frozen burritos, and dog food were on my list.
Amazingly I got one of the last 36 lb. bags of dog food. The 55 lb. bags were gone. There were still a few tubes of the chips. There were no burritos but there was exactly one beef and potato chimichanga left in the freezer section so I snagged it. Milk was a lost cause. The dairy case was empty except for a few small bottles of non-dairy creamer.
OTOH the wine section was completely stocked. So was the produce section. Bread was all gone but there were buns, taco shells, bagels and various pastries.
Doesn’t bother us. We could probably live for a month just on our freezer and pantry. Another week on the food in my camping box. Then there are a few 5 gallon buckets of rice and beans and other dry foods we have squirreled away for a rainy day.
Yes, I admit it. I was survivalist of sorts for much of my life. Came from a rural Michigan upbringing. You can take the boy out of the country but…

I’ve to go to a grocery store today for milk and other supplies and I’m pretty terrified we’re not going to find anything. I worry for people who won’t be able to get food and supplies enough to feed themselves or their families…

I had better results going to small convenience stores.

Yeah we went to Safeway and it wasn’t as crazy as bulk stores like Costco and smart and final. Small stores and local Asian grocery stores are the best places right now

I never attempt Walmart in normal times. Terrifies me. The first time I went to Walmart — late 80s? — with my mom in Billings MT I was shocked by the sheer amount of STUFF. Then I considered the number of Walmarts across the country and was even more horrified. Then on a road trip, I saw a Walmart warehouse that filled a whole Nevada canyon. Anyway, we’ve been advised to shop a week at a time so there is something for everyone. I don’t know if we’re doing that or not. My store was well stocked Weds when I went.

We just had our 1st confirmed case in our city. So, I assume shits’s about to get super real here… It’s already been crazy. This will make it even worse, I’m sure. I’m definitely worried for my business…

Outlasting an epidemic is a lot like holding your breath.

Isn’t that the recommended deterrent for the virus?? 🤔😅
