Mourning doves are one of my favorite birds. Lots of them in Oklahoma, but the further west I move the fewer there are to enjoy. What a lovely gift to have this family move in!
AWWWWW…I am envious. Aren’t dove chicks about the ugliest things you ever saw to start with though? LOL. I rescued one that was blown down from a nest once. They are super hard to hand raise and this should be done only by experts. Often if the chick is in a safe place you can leave them there and the parents will continue to care for them.
sadly they are a pest and introduced species over here, that being said the sounds of them always remind me of my childhood because they always use to nest around my childhood home
I love the sound of mourning doves. I don’t hear them much around here in the Laurentians of Quebec, but I do hear one when I go to visit a friend in the Ottawa area. And I hear them often in British TV shows like Heartbeat. Nice post, Fred!

I checked today and one of the chicks has returned to the nest. It’s coloration is starting to lighten. Soon it will be all grower up!
